Smith Advances to Consolation Final at ITA Northwest Regional

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Mikaila Smith (Jr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) of Willamette University earned a win in the semifinals of the consolation singles bracket before losing in the consolation final at the ITA Northwest Regional on Sunday, Oct. 2.

In the semifinals, Smith won in straight sets over Basia Kopecka of Linfield College, 6-3, 6-4. That win advanced Smith into the consolation final against Marisa Doveri from Linfield. Doveri outscored Smith, 6-4, 6-3, to win the consolation bracket.

The ITA Northwest Regional was hosted by Whitman College. The three-day event concluded on Sunday. In the singles championship match, Wiktoria Plawska from Lewis & Clark College defeated Ella Riddle of Linfield, 6-2, 6-0. In the doubles championship match, Riddle and Elsa Harris of Linfield rallied past Hanna Greenberg and Mary Hill of Whitman in a super tied-breaker played instead of a third set, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

Willamette concluded its fall schedule this weekend. The Bearcats will return to action during the spring semester.
