George Fox Moves to 2-0 in NWC with 9-0 Win over Willamette

TUALATIN, Ore. -- George Fox University improvd to 2-0 in the Northwest Conference and to 2-1 overall with a 9-0 win over Willamette University in women's tennis action on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Willamette fell to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the NWC.

Willamette's Mikaila Smith (Jr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) and Alexis Gjurasic (So., Olympia, WA/Capital HS) battled GFU's Sarah Tuemmler and Ellen Pearson at #1 doubles. Tuemmler and Pearson eventually prevailed, 8-5. Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock of George Fox won #2 doubles, while Andrea Motley and Lydia Pia took #3 doubles for the Bruins.

George Fox, ranked #18 in the West Region of NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), won all six singles matches in straight sets. At #1 singles, Tuemmler defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-0.

The Bearcats will host University of Puget Sound at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Sunday, Feb. 26. Match time is scheduled fro 1 p.m. (PST).
