Pirates Drop Bearcats 9-0 during NWC Women's Tennis match in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. --- Whitworth University defeated Willamette University, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match at the Scotford Tennis Center. The Pirates upped their record to 2-4 on the season, 2-3 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 0-6 overall, 0-5 in the NWC.

The Pirates opened the day by winning all three doubles matches without losing a game. Winning for Whitworth were Bella Hoyos and Erica Lee at #1 doubles, Jennifer Adams and Emma Jo Wiley at #2 doubles, and Paige Rohrbach and Emily Sandquist at #3 doubles.

Whitworth continued to pull away by claiming all six singles matches in straight sets. At #1 singles, Hoy0s downed Mikaila Smith (Jr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS), 6-0, 6-0. In the #2 singles match, Wiley defeated Alexis Gjurasic (So., Olympia, WA/Capital HS) in the first set, 6-0. Gjurasic provided a solid battle in the second set, but Wiley eventually won, 6-3.

The Bearcats will play at University of Puget Sound on Saturday, March 11. Match time in Tacoma, Washington, is scheduled for 10 a.m. (PST).
