Smith is Named Second Team All-NWC for Second Year in a Row

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University women's tennis player Mikaila Smith (Jr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) has been chosen Second Team All-Northwest Conference for the second consecutive season. Overall, a total of 16 players were selected for the 2017 All-NWC Women's Tennis Team, with eight athletes on the First Team and eight athletes on the Second Team.

Ella Riddle from Linfield College was named NWC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Andrea Gu of Whitman College was selected as the NWC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year. Linfield co-head coaches Lisa Macy-Baker and Carl Swanson were named NWC Women's Tennis Coaches of the Year.

Second Team All-Northwest Conference

Mikaila Smith (Jr.) also received Second Team All-NWC recognition at the end of the 2015-16 season. This year, she was one of 10 players who received All-NWC honors for the second year in a row. She was one of two players who were on the Second Team both seasons. Also repeating as a Second Team All-NWC selection was Caroline Dreher from Pacific Lutheran University.

"Playing #1 singles and #1 doubles all season, Mikaila faced tough challenges in every conference match," Willamette Head Coach Becky Roberts said. "The Northwest Conference is very deep with outstanding #1 players. Mikaila was competitive in all her matches and is deserving of this selection."

Kaitlyn Lomartire from Pacific University was named First Team All-NWC for the fourth year in a row, while Riddle earned First Team All-NWC honors for the third time.
