Women's Tennis Honors Seniors Andres, Gjurasic and Kong, but Linfield Wins, 9-0

SALEM, Ore. -- Linfield College, ranked #29 in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated Willamette University, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday, April 20 at the WU Tennis Courts. Before the match began, the Bearcats honored Willamette seniors Hannah Andres (Sr., Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS), Alexis Gjurasic (Sr., Olympia, WA/Capital HS) and Rachel Kong (Sr., Hayward, CA/Castro Valley HS).

Linfield improved to 14-2 on the season and remained undefeated with a 7-0 record in the NWC. The Wildcats also are ranked #6 in the West Region. Willamette ended its season at 4-10 overall, 2-6 in the NWC.

The Wildcats swept the doubles matches and held a 3-0 lead when singles play started. Linfield's singles lineup was led by Michelle Uyeda, who is ranked #3 in the West Region.

Uyeda downed Sarah Dean (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette at #1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. At #2 singles, Riley Clayeux defeated Robin Pashek (So., The Dalles, OR/The Dalles-Wahtonka HS) of Willamette in the first set, 6-0. Pashek provided strong opposition in the second set before Clayeux earned a 6-4 win.

Also winning singles matches for Linfield wee Alysse Nakasato at #3, Maggie Fiocchi at #4, Sarah Sweet at #5 and Jesse Vezo at #6.
