Bearcats Participate at ITA Northwest Regional in Women's Tennis

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Members of the Willamette University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Northwest Regional on Saturday, Sept. 28. The event, hosted this year by Whitman College, is sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Competition was split between a singles championship bracket and a doubles championship bracket.

In doubles, the Willamette team of Robin Pashek (Jr., The Dalles, OR/The Dalles-Wahtonka HS) and Sylvia Marr (Jr., Grants Pass, OR/Hidden Valley HS) combined their efforts to down Danielle Brown and Olivia Morris of George Fox University in the first round, 8-1. Also in the first round, Sydnie Binder and Adrienne Powell of Pacific advanced past Alyssa Oberg (Sr., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) and Yulia Heggestad (Fy., Blue Hill, ME/George Stevens Academy) of Willamette, 6-0.

During the second round, Michelle Uyeda and Lexie Matsunaga of Linfield College, defeated Pashek and Marr, 8-1.

Oberg provided a strong battle in the second set of her first round singles match against Avery Honaker from University of Puget Sound, before Honaker won, 6-2, 6-4. Hannah Worden of Whitman moved past Pashek, 6-2, 6-3, while Bridget Myers from Puget Sound defeated Marr, 6-1, 6-1. Audrey Grigore of Whitman, one of eight players seeded #9, moved past Heggestad, 6-0, 6-0.
