Marr and Ginsburg Win at #2 Doubles, but Puget Sound Defeats Bearcats, 8-1

TACOMA, Wash. -- Sylvia Marr (Jr., Grants Pass, OR/Hidden Valley HS) and Siena Ginsburg (Jr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette University were victorious at #2 doubles, but the University of Puget Sound took #1 and #3 doubles before sweeping the singles matches to defeat the Bearcats, 8-1, in a non-conference match on Saturday, Feb. 22. Puget Sound upped its record to 2-3 overall, while Willamette slipped to 0-3.

Marr and Ginsburg won 8-5 against Barclay Fagg and Avery Honaker of Puget Sound. At #1 doubles, Lisa Owen and Bridget Myers won against Sarah Dean (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) and Robin Pashek (Jr., The Dalles, OR/The Dalles-Wahtonka HS) of WU, 8-1. In the #3 doubles match, Puget Sound's team of Zoe Love and Alexis Choy defeated Alyssa Oberg (Sr., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) and Rebecca Griffith (Fy., Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain HS), 8-1.

The most competitive match in singles was at the #4 position, where Ginsburg of WU and Honaker of Puget Sound battled it out. Honaker dropped the first set,\ and easily won the second set, before outlasting Ginsburg in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set. Honaker won, 5-7, 6-0, 10-7. At #1 singles, Owen held off Pashek in the first set, 6-3, and then won the second set, 6-1. Other winners for the Loggers in singles were Owen, Myers, Fagg, Love and Choy.

Willamette will remain in Tacoma to take on Pacific Lutheran University in another non-conference match on Sunday, Feb. 22. Match time is set for 10 a.m. (PST).
