Bearcats Fall to Strong Otterbein Team in Women's Tennis, 9-0

SALEM, Ore. -- Otterbein University (Ohio) defeated Willamette University in women's tennis, 9-0, on Tuesday, March 3 at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club, as the Cardinals improved to 8-1 on the season. The Bearcats fell to 0-6 overall.

Siena Ginsburg (Jr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) and Alyssa Oberg (Sr., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) of Willamette provided a strong match at #2 doubles, before Kristen Zink and Rachelle Moses of Otterbein held them off for an 8-4 victory. In the #1 doubles match, Otterbein's Makayla Sutter and Jordyn Traxler downed Sarah Dean (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) and Sylvia Marr (Jr., Grants Pass, OR/Hidden Valley HS), 8-2. At #3 doubles. Rachel Ferguson and Lea Wright won for the Cardinals, 8-1, over Rebecca Griffith (Fy., Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain HS) and Yulia Heggestad (Fy., Blue Hill, ME/George Stevens Academy).

The Cardinals won all six singles in straight sets. Sydney Bergman prevailed at #1 singles with a solid 6-1 win in the first set, before holding off Dean 6-3 in the second set. A matching result occurred at #3 singles, with Marriella Briones earning a victory over Ginsburg, 6-1, 6-3. Other winners for Otterbein were Sutter at #2 singles, Zink at #4 singles, Ashley Lambillotte at #5 singles, and Madison Mueller at #6 singles.

Willamette's next match is set for Saturday, March 7 at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. The match is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. (PST)
