Dean is Victorious at #1 Singles against GFU, but Bruins Down Bearcats, 8-1

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Sarah Dean (Jr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette University won her match at #1 singles in straight sets, but George Fox University succeeded in all of the other matches, as the Bruins defeated the Bearcats, 8-1, in Northwest Conference women's tennis action on Sunday, March 8. GFU advanced its record to 5-4 overall, 1-1 in the NWC, while Willamette fell to 0-8 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.

In the #1 singles match, Dean moved past Jillian Studer of George Fox, 6-3, 6-4. At #2 singles, Laney Search won a quick first set, 6-0, and then held off WU's Siena Ginsburg in the second set, 6-3. Also winning for the Bruins in singles were Taylor Morris at the #3 position, Ellie Mangan at #4, Olivia Morris at #5, and Megan Wilks at #6.

The Bruins prevailed in all three doubles matches. At #1 doubles, Danielle Brown and Sophia Lawrence defeated Ginsburg and Sylvia Marr (Jr., Grants Pass, OR/Hidden Valley HS), 8-1. The George Fox #2 doubles team of Laney and Mangan held off Dean and Alyssa Oberg (Sr., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS), 8-4.

Willamette's next match is set for Saturday, March 14, when the Bearcats will host Pacific Lutheran University in an NWC match. Action is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. (PDT).
