Ginsburg Pushes McDonald into a Super Tie-Breaker, but Bearcats Fall to GFU

SALEM, Ore. -- Siena Ginsburg (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette University forced Emily McDonald of George Fox to play a super tie-breaker at #2 singles on Saturday, April 11. McDonald won the super tie-breaker, helping the Bruins defeat Willamette in the overall non-conference match, 9-0, at the WU Tennis Courts. GFU improved to 7-1 overall, while the Bearcats slipped to 0-7 on the season.

Ginsburg won the first set against McDonald, 6-3, but McDonald won the second set in a very close tie-breaker, 7-6 (9-7). McDonald outscored Ginsburg 10-7 in the super tie-breaker played instead of a third set. At #1 singles, Danielle Brown of GFU outlasted Sarah Dean (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of the Bearcats, 6-4, 6-4.

Other winners in singles matches for the Bruins were Laney Search at #3, Taylor Morris at #4, Alyssa Byde at #5, and Brenna VanderYacht at #6.

The #1 doubles match ended in a victory for GFU's team of Brown and Ellie Manga, who downed Dean and Ginsburg, 8-2. At #2 doubles, Taylor Morris and Olivia Morris combined to defeat Alyssa Siobhan Oberg (Grad., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) and Paisley Lieske (So., Seattle, WA/Vashon Island HS) of WU, 8-0. The #3 George Fox doubles team of Sophia Lawerence and Abigail Ramer defeated WU's team of Ruby Blake (Fy., La Crosse, WI/Central HS) and Ruby Thompson (Fy., Bay City, OR/Tillamook HS).

Willamette will play again on Sunday, April 25, when the Bearcats are slated to host the University of Puget Sound. Match time at the WU Tennis Courts is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
