Wildcats Claim Northwest Conference Match on Saturday

SALEM, Ore. – The Willamette women's tennis team hosted Linfield University Saturday, April 2, falling 9-0 in a Northwest Conference match up. With the win the Wildcats improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the NWC while the Bearcats fell to 0-4 and 0-2.

The Wildcats took an early lead, not surrendering a game to take a 3-0 advantage after doubles. Linfield also swept the singles matches to capture the 9-0 decision.

Anika Groener (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) took a pair of games from Lexie Matsunaga in a 6-1, 6-1 setback in the second singles flight. Camille Gibney (Sr., La Crescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS) claimed two games in the opening set at number three before Sarah Forester came away with the point, 6-2, 6-1.

Willamette returns to action on Sunday, traveling to Lewis & Clark for another NWC match. Doubles are set to begin at 11 a.m. (PDT)
