Willamette Plays Colorado College in Non-Conference Women's Tennis Match

SALEM, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team took on Colorado College in non-conference action at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Monday, March 27, and the Tigers won 9-0. Colorado College improved to 3-5 on the season, while the Bearcats moved to 1-7.

Willamette's #2 doubles team of Alexa de Crinis (Fy., Makawao, HI/Seabury Hall School) and Ruby Thompson (Sr., Bay City, OR/Tillamook HS) provided a solid battle against Christina Heffron and Gigi Jensen of Colorado College before Heffron and Jensen won 8-4. At #1 doubles, the Tigers' team of Magdalene Gonzales and Maddy Meister downed Richelle Suzuki (So., Mililani, HI/Mililani HS) and Anika Groener (So., Bend, OR/Summit HS), 8-3. Elizabeth Girian and Malia Rivera of Colorado College were victorious at #3 doubles.

Girian had to hold off Groener of Willamette in the first set at #3 singles before winning the match, 7-5, 6-0. Lindsay Popeo of the Tigers defeated Suzuka at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Other winners in singles for Colorado College were Heffron at #1, Jensen at #4, Rivea at #5, and Maddy Meister at #6.

Willamette will host Pacific University in a Northwest Conference match on Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m. The match will be held at the WU Tennis Courts if possible. If the weather forces the match indoors, it will be played at Salem Tennis and Swim Club.
