Leenstra is Named NWC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week

Averages 3.88 Kills per Set, Earns a .500 Hitting Percentage

SALEM, ORE. -- Madisyn Leenstra (Sr., OH/MH, Bellingham, WA/Sehome HS) of Willamette University has been chosen Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts during the week ending Sunday, Oct. 14. It is the second time this season that Leenstra has been selected for Student-Athlete of the Week honors. She previously earned the award for the week ending Sept. 30.

Leenstra helped the Bearcats go 2-0 during the week with a 3-2 win over Linfield College and a 3-0 victory over Pacific. She averaged 3.88 kills per set while attaining a .500 hitting percentage, with 31 kills, just two errors and 58 total attacks.

Willamette edged out Linfield, 25-8, 18-25, 25-20, 24-26, 15-11. The Bearcats moved past Pacific, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14.

Against Linfield, Leenstra achieved a match-high 22 kills and a .526 hitting percentage with just two attacking errors. She also contributed three service aces, five digs and two block assists. In the sweep of Pacific, she provided WU with nine kills, five digs and one block assist.

For the season, she leads Willamette with 226 kills, 3.53 kills per gamed and a .246 hitting percentage. She also has accumulated 136 digs, 26 blocks and a team-high 19 service aces.

The Bearcats will host a pair of NWC matches this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 19, Willamette will take on Whitman College at Cone Field House at 7 p.m. (PDT). On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Bearcats will battle Whitworth University, starting at 5 p.m. (PDT).
