Compton Earns NWC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week Honor

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University senior volleyball player Lindsey Compton (OH/S, Portola, CA/Portola HS/Univ. of Hartford) has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week after recording triple-doubles in both matches for the Bearcats last week.

In a 3-1 win over archrival Linfield College on Friday, Sept. 18 in front of 617 fans at Cone Field House, Compton earned 11 kills, 20 assists and 21 digs. In Willamette's 3-1 victory at George Fox University on Saturday, Sept. 19, Compton provided the Bearcats with a match-high 19 kills, plus 22 assists and 18 digs.

Willamette is 2-0 in the Northwest Conference for the first time since 2004, when the Bearcats opened NWC action at 2-0 and 8-1.

During the week, Compton averaged 3.75 digs per set with a .258 hitting percentage, while achieving 5.25 assists, 4.88 digs and 0.62 blocks per set. Compton has compiled 77 kills this season (2.08 avg.), while supplying 169 assists (4.57 avg.), 134 digs (3.62 avg.) and 20 blocks (0.54 avg.).

WU will host Pacific University on Friday, Sept. 25 at Cone Field House, starting at 7 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats will remain at home on Saturday, Sept. 26 to take on University of Puget Sound, also at 7 p.m.
