Sato is Selected as NWC Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University libero Shyla Sato (Jr., Honolulu, HI/MId-Pacific Institute) has been named the Northwest Conference Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in matches played on Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25. Sato led all players on both teams in digs during the matches against Whitman College and Whitworth University.

Sato earned a season-high 32 digs against Whitman on Friday, as she finished just three digs away from her career best of 35, set twice this past spring. On Saturday, she added 26 digs against Whitworth. She registered a total of 58 digs during the week, while playing in nine sets for an average of 6.44 digs per set.

This season, Sato leads the Bearcats with 194 digs in 37 sets. She has earned 819 digs in her career.

Willamette will take on George Fox University at Cone Field House on Friday, Oct. 1. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PDT).
