Bearcats Participate in Linfield Preview

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University entered a small group of cross country runners in the Linfield Preview at Willamette Mission State Park on Saturday, Sept. 24. The meet was hosted by Linfield College.

Three members of the WU women's team and two runners from the Bearcat men's team competed.

Cathy Monahan (Sr., La Grande, OR/La Grande HS) of Willamette placed 17th in the women's race with a time of 25:05.15 over the 6-kilometer course. Maggie Ruwitch (Fr., Canby, OR/Canby HS) completed the race in 27:11.10, while Karlie Pyle (So., Bonney Lake, WA/Bonney Lake HS) was timed at 28:30.34.

Kelsey Owens, running unattached, took first place in the women's race. Her time was 22:36.86. Kelly Evans of Linfield was second at 22:59.98 and Madison Trowbridge, also from Linfield, finished third at 23:22.09. Linfield won the team title with a score of 19.

Julio Silva (Fr., Medford, OR/St. Mary's HS) from Willamette was 20th in the men's 8-kilometer race. He registered a time of 28:31.78. Brin Manoogian O'Dell (Sr., Athens, OH/Athens HS) was time at 31:53.46.

Alan DenAdel from Pacific Lutheran University won the men's race with a time of 26:07.51. Arian Anderson of Linfield placed second at 26:16.42 and Joseph Gladow of Linfield was third at 26:18.45. Linfield took first place in the men's team standings with a score of 26.

The Bearcats will compete with a full entry at the 37th Annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1. Action at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore., is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. (PDT). Each season, the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational is one of the largest meets on the West Coast.
