Swanson Named NWC Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University runner Hannah Swanson (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) has been selected at the Northwest Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14. It is the second time this season that Swanson has been named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week.

Swanson had an outstanding race in the women's 6-kilometer run which featured 353 runners at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Swanson took second place with a time of 22:35.69 and trailed only Cheyenne Moore from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, who earned first place in 22: 10.29.

Willamette did not enter a complete team at the Kollege Town Sports Invitational, but the Bearcats had four runners who placed among the top 40 finishers. Swanson led the way, while Kyla Shade (So., Snohomish, WA/Snohomish HS) claimed 28th placed in 24:02.39. Hazel Carr (Jr., Seattle, WA/The Northwest School) was 32nd with a time of 24:09.16, and Emily Evans (Jr., Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS) completed the course in 24:17.89 for 37th place.

The Bearcats will be back in action at the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Walla Walla, Washington. The women's 6-kilometer race and the men's 8-kilometer race will be held at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.
