SALEM, Ore. -- Former Willamette University team physician Dr. Malcolm Snider passed away earlier this year on February 19. He was the doctor for the Bearcats from 1984 until 2002. The athletic training room at McCulloch Stadium, which serves the football, baseball, cross country, and track and field teams, was named in Snider's honor shortly after he retired as the team physician.

Snider grew up in Salem, Oregon, and graduated from North Salem High School. He received an athletic scholarship to play football as an offensive lineman while attending Stanford University. After playing football at Stanford, he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons as an offensive guard and tackle in the third round of the 1969 NFL draft. He played for three seasons with the Falcons from 1969-71 and then played for three seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 1972-74.

He played in 83 of 84 regular season games over six seasons in the NFL, including 41 with Atlanta and 42 with Green Bay. He also saw action in one playoff game for the Packers in 1972. During his first season in Atlanta in 1969, Snider returned a kickoff 48 yards for a touchdown.

While playing for the Packers he attended medical school part-time at the University of Wisconsin. He received his medical degree in 1978. He spent much of his career as an orthopedic surgeon.

Snider was born on April 5, 1947. He died at the age of 74.

At Willamette, Snider will be remembered for his work as the Bearcats' team physician for approximately 18 years. He also will be remembered for his support of Willamette Athletics and the Willamette Athletic Training staff.
