Bearcats to Support Brain Cancer Patients at A Night of Hope on Jan. 31

A Night of Hope: Kims Hope Logo and Willamette Bearcats Basketball Logo

SALEM, Ore. -- It will be A Night of Hope on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when the Bearcats aid in the fight against brain cancer as the Willamette University basketball teams host Linfield University in a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Cone Field House. The evening is being held in cooperation with Kim's Hope, which was founded in memory of Kim Veenhuis, the mother of former Willamette women's basketball player Amanda Carpenter.

On Tuesday evening, there will be drawings for giveaways and an opportunity to take photos with Blitz, the Bearcat mascot. The Willamette women's basketball team will take on Linfield at 6 p.m. (PST), with the men's game between the Bearcats and the Wildcats set for 8 p.m.

Kim's Hope works to increase awareness of glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. Kim Veenhuis battled her own diagnosis of glioblastoma from December of 2019 through August 2021. In honor of her, Kim's Hope is dedicated to providing financial aid to glioblastoma patients and their families to ensure they have the ability to access the medications, care, and treatment they need. Kim's Hope is also proud to offer an annual scholarship for a student pursuing higher education that has been affected by glioblastoma in their family.

You can make a donation or order event items (such as t-shirts, hats, scarves, coffee mugs, and stickers) using the appropriate link below. Your order may be available for pick-up on game night (especially if the order was placed by Jan. 15), or it can be shipped to you. Kim's Hope will have some items at A Night of Hope, but quantities will be limited.

At last year's Night of Hope on Jan. 21, 2022, Amanda Carpenter scored a career-high 31 points in her final home game against Linfield. The Bearcats won the women's game 70-50.
