SALEM, Ore. -- Trey Shimabukuro has been hired as Willamette University's quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, Willamette Head Football Coach Isaac Parker announced today. Shimabukuro will lead Willamette's quarterbacks while working alongside Parker to develop and implement the team's offensive strategy.

"I am very excited to have Trey join our staff,"  Parker said. "Within the Pacific Northwest small college circles, he's established himself as a bright, young football mind. He has played an instrumental part of Western Oregon's success in developing the quarterback position and helped them win a conference championship. Both of those experiences will help us grow in ways that we need to as a football program. He is an established recruiter, a hard worker, and fits the character and personality of our staff and team culture. I am so glad he is buying into the vision for our program. He will be instrumental to our future success as we continue to build something special at Willamette."

Prior to arriving at Willamette, Shimabukuro was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at Western Oregon University from the winter of 2016 through the 2021 season. He helped the Wolves improve in NCAA Division II and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), with WOU achieving a 7-4 overall record and 5-1 record (1st place) in the GNAC in 2019. Shimabukuro helped WOU quarterback Ty Currie earn GNAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. Currie was nominated for the Harlon Hill Award that goes to the top athlete in NCAA Division II.

"I am grateful for the opportunity, and I look forward to working with Isaac and the rest of the staff as we continue to build on the foundation," Shimabukuro said. "The future of Willamette football is bright and I am fired up to be a part of it."

Shimabukuro is from Hawaii, where he attended Kauai High School. After graduating, he received a football scholarship to attend Western Oregon University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from WOU in 2016 and received a Master of Science in Coaching Education from Ohio University in 2019.

In addition to coaching and recruiting players while at Western Oregon as an assistant coach, Shimabukuro was active off the field. He helped with ordering team gear and organized the Wolves' annual week-long high school camp. He also organized the WOU football team's annual golf tournament, which raised funds for travel, apparel, and scholarships.
