Bearcats Hold Third Place at NWC Fall Classic, as Jones Shoots 74 in First Round

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Willamette University was tied for third place in the team standings after the first round of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in men's golf on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Michelbook Country Club. Trent Jones (Sr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) of Willamette shot a 2-over-par 74 and was tied for seventh place, while three other Bearcat golfers were part of a five-way tie for 10th. Action at the tournament will conclude with the second round on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Whitworth University topped the team standings with a score of 295. Pacific Lutheran University was second at 298 and Willamette was third at 302. George Fox University owned fourth place at 306, while Linfield College was fifth at 317 and University of Puget Sound was sixth at 318. Pacific University followed in seventh at 335, with Lewis & Clark College one stroke behind the Lutes in eighth at 336. Whitman College was ninth at 344.

Jordan Brajcich of Pacific Lutheran sat atop the individual leaderboard with a 4-under-par 68. Joshua Lackey of George Fox was second at 1-under-par 71. Derrick Phelps from Whitworth was third at 72. Cole Albert of Puget Sound, Mason Koch of GFU and Keegan Loo of Whitworth each shared part of fourth place with a 73. Jones of Willamette and Caleb Belton of Whitworth were tied for seventh place at 74. Ryan Pearson from PLU was ninth at 75.

The five-way tie for 10th was at 76. Willamette's three players involved in the tie were Austin Davis (Fr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS), Sam Hinton (Sr., Seaside, OR/Seaside HS) and Andrew Kibbee (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS). Also shooting a 76 in the first round were Austin Darnell of Pacific Lutheran and JackRyan O'Neil of Whitworth.

Big Moment of the Round for Willamette

Trent Jones shot five birdies in the first round. He had
three of his birdies on the front nine at the 5th hole,
6th hole and 7th hole. Later, he added a birdie on the
12th hole (par 3), and finished the round with a birdie on
the 18th hole (par 5).
