Sheldon's West Cup Finish Earns NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Kenneth Sheldon (Sr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the prestigious West Cup on March 25-26 at the Sierra La Verne Country Club in La Verne, California. Sheldon tied for sixth place in the individual standings, while leading the Bearcats to fourth place in the team standings.

Sheldon shot 221 during the 54-hole event. He finished the tournament in a four-way tie for sixth place out of 83 golfers. He carded a 73 in the first round, shot a 77 in the second round, and registered a 71 in the third round.

Willamette took fourth place on the team leaderboard with a score of 906. The Bearcats shot 298 in the first round and followed up with rounds of 303 and 305. Willamette was the top finisher out of four teams from the Northwest Conference.

Up next for the Bearcats is the NWC Spring Classic, which will be held at the Olympia Golf and Country Club in Olympia, Washington, on Saurday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.

The NWC Spring Classic counts for one-fourth of the overall NWC title. The NWC Fall Classic also counts for one-fourth of the title, while the NWC Tournament, set for April 19-20, counts for one-half. Leaders after the Fall Classic are Whitworth University with 8 points, Willamette with 7 points, Pacific Lutheran University with 6 points, and George Fox University with 5 points.
