SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University men's golfers Austin Davis (Sr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS), Andrew Kibbee (Sr., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS), and Alex Weirth (Sr., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy) have been named to the NCAA Division III PING All-West Region Team for 2021-22 by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). A total of 15 golfers from the West Coast and Texas were selected for All-West Region honors. Davis and Weirth were selected for the third consecutive season while Kibbee made his second straight appearance.
Four golfers from the Northwest Conference were named to the All-West Region Team. In addition to Willamette's three selections, Caleb Belton was chosen from Whitworth University. This year, the GCAA and PING honored a total of 118 golfers on seven All-Region teams nationwide.
Willamette won its third consecutive Northwest Conference Championship. The Bearcats captured the NWC title by placing first twice and second once during the three tournaments used to determine the overall standings. In addition to winning the NWC Tournament, Willamette took first place at the NWC Fall Classic and second at the NWC Spring Classic. The Bearcats earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship and claimed seven team titles over the course of the 2021-22 season. The Bearcats tied for 19th place at the NCAA Championship.
NCAA Division III PING All-West Region
Austin Davis (Sr.) was named All-West Region for the third time after receiving the honor in 2019-20 and 2020-21. This year, he tied for 10th at the NCAA Championship with a score of 293 (72-73-74-74). He recorded his low round of the tournament on the first day, as he shot a 1-over par 72 (par 71 course). He also shot 1-over par on the second day with a 73 (par 72 course).
This spring, Davis was chosen First Team All-NWC for the third time and was named the NWC Player of the Year after winning the individual title at the NWC Tournament. He was selected First Team All-NWC in 2018-19 when he was the NWC Men's Golf Freshman of the Year after placing in the top five at all three NWC events. He received First Team recognition in 2020-21 as well, finishing second at the NWC Tournament.
Davis claimed medalist honors in four tournaments in 2021-22, placing second at the George Fox Invitational and the NWC Spring Classic, and fourth in the season opener at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview. His low round this year was a 5-under par 67 in the third round of the NCAA Division III Preview. He added a 4-under 68 and shot a 69 on day two to tie for first at the NWC Fall Classic. He also turned in a 3-under 69 at George Fox in the fall and a 1-under 69 at Willamette's Spring Trilogy #3 in April.
Andrew Kibbee (Sr.) earned All-West Region honors for the second consecutive season. He was named First Team All-NWC for the second straight year this spring after receiving Second Team All-NWC recognition in 2018-19.
Kibbee tied for third at the NWC Tournament with a remarkable 5-under par 67 on the second day, marking the lowest round of the tournament. He went 4-under on the second day of the NWC Fall Classic after shooting 69 in the first round to tie Davis and force a playoff with a 137. Kibbee finished in second at the Linfield Invitational, the West Region Showdown, and Willamette's Spring Trilogy #3. He placed third at the Spring Trilogy #1 with an even-par 72.
Earlier in his career, he won the 2018-19 Pacific Spring Invitational and placed first at the 2019-20 NWC Fall Classic. He carded a 67 in 2020-21 and recorded rounds of 69 in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Alex Weirth (Sr.) joined Davis on the All-West Region Team for the third year in a row. He was named First Team All-NWC for the second straight season with top 10 showings in the NWC Fall and Spring Classic events, and the NWC Tournament.
He tied for third with Kibbee at the NWC Tournament, shooting a (71-73--144). He was third at the NWC Tournament in 2020-21 as well. This season, he finished second at the George Fox Invitational and the Spring Trilogy #1, and finished third at the Spring Trilogy #3. He shot a career-low 5-under par 67 on the opening round at George Fox and put together two career-low rounds of 69 in 2019-20.
Weirth won individual titles during the 2019-20 season at the George Fox University Invitational in the fall and at the Puget Sound Invitational in the spring.
