SALEM, Ore. — Willamette University defeated Linfield University 2-1 on Sunday at Sparks Field. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Bearcats scored twice in the second half to secure the victory. Willamette's defense held the Wildcats to just two shots on goal, while the offense recorded 11 total shots, including five on target.
Ky Iliev scored the game-winning goal for the Bearcats, tallying one of the team's two goals in the match and leading with four shots, three of which were on target. Paddy Bell contributed with a goal, converting his only shot of the game to tie the score. Mikkel Jensen, in goal, made one save across 90 minutes of play to secure the victory. Lorenzo Trejo De Dios added an assist, setting up one of the goals to aid in the team's offensive efforts.
Willamette improves to 1-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play following the victory. Linfield drops to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
The next challenge for the Bearcats is a trip to Spokane, WA, where they will face Whitworth University on September 20. The match is set to begin at 2:45 p.m.
