FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Brian Peck (Jr., Reno, NV/Reno HS) of Willamette University ended the first day of the decathlon in seventh place out of 18 competitors at the Pacific Multi-Event on Monday, March 25. Adrian Schnee (Fr., Kalispell, MT/Glacier HS), also from Willamette, was in ninth place out of 26 athletes participating in the heptathlon. Peck owned a score of 3,027 after five events in the decathlon, while Schnee earned a score of 2,334 in the first four events of the heptathlon. The Pacific Multi-Event will conclude on Tuesday, March 26.
Peck's top score of the day was in the 100-meter dash. He completed the race in 11.72 seconds to earn 707 points. Peck also scored more than 600 points in three other events. He registered 632 points by completing the 400-meter dash in 54.19 seconds. He tacked on 624 points with a long jump of 20' 3", and he earned 602 points after clearing 5' 9.75" in the high jump. He placed fifth in the long jump, sixth in the 100-meter dash, seventh in the high jump, and eighth in the 400-meter dash.
Schnee registered nearly identical scores during the two running events on Monday in the heptathlon. She finished the 200-meter dahs in 27.55 seconds for 667 points and she ran the 100-meter hurdles in 16.40 seconds to earn 666 points. She added 644 points by clearing 4' 11.75" in the high jump. Schnee was sixth in the high jump, 11th in the 100-meter hurdles and 12th in the 200-meter dash.
The leader after five events in the decathlon was Michael Schmidt of Corban University with a score of 3,452 points. He took first place in the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds and was first in the 400-meter dash in 50.98 seconds.
Josh Schulz of Saint Martin's University (Wash.) was second in the decathlon standings with 3,398 points, while Giovanni Brown from Concordia University (Ore.) held third place at 3,307 points.
In the heptathlon, Paige Dodd from Eastern Oregon University led the field with 2,797 points. Dodd won the high jump at 5' 3.25". Valerie Schmidt from Corban was second overall with 2,721 points. Chase Stephens of Concordia was third at 2,645 points.
