Duenas Earns 5th Place out of 25 Competitors in Hammer Throw at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Hope Duenas (Jr., Covina, CA/Covina HS) of Willamette University finished in fifth place in the women's hammer throw at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational on Saturday, April at Maxwell Field. Duenas registered her top distance of 131' 3" on her first throw in the finals.

Joining Duenas in the women's hammer for the Bearcats were Jeidah DeZurney (So., Brownsville, OR/Lebanon HS) and Avery Mickelsen (Fr., Ephrata, WA/Ephrata HS).

DeZurney achieved a top throw of 118' 2". Mickelsen earned a career-best result of 115' 10", surpassing her previous top mark of 113' 5" set earlier this year at the Willamette vs. Corban Dual on March 14. Mickelson also competed in the discus and produced a top throw of 100' 5".

In the men's discus, Saige Swan (Jr., Crescent City, CA/Del Norte HS) of Willamette placed 10th out of 25 throwers. His top distance was 129' 7".

The Bearcats will compete at the Pacific Luau Invitational on Saturday, April 13 in Forest Grove, Oregon.
