Carlson Earns 13th Place in 5,000-meter Run at NCAA Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- Willamette University's Keith Carlson (Sr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) placed 13th in the men's 5,000-meter run on the final day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Spire Institute on Saturday, May 25. Carlson earned a time of 15:20.83.

The men's 5,000 was won by Dhruvil Patel of North Central College in 14:40.86. Patel also won the NCAA Division III title in the 10,000-meter run earlier in the week.

Patel was followed in the 5,000 by Andy Reischling of Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.), who took second place in 14:43.41. Grant O'Connor from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) crossed the finish line in third place at 14:44.46.

Darin Lau from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was fourth in 14:47.37. Lucas Mueller from Carleton College (Minn.) placed fifth in 14:50.04. A total of 20 runners competed in the 5,000.

Carlson was the last of three Bearcats to compete at this year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Earlier, Hope Duenas (Jr., Covina, CA/Covina HS) placed 11th in the women's discus throw at 136' 2", and Keaton Beckmann (So., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) grabbed 11th place in the decathlon with a personal record score of 6,519 points.
