Anderson Wins Three Events at Willamette versus Lewis & Clark Dual

SALEM, Ore. -- Oliver Anderson (So., Salem, OR/Home Schooled) from Willamette University won three men's events during the Willamette vs. Lewis & Clark Dual, which began on Friday, April 23, and concluded on Saturday, April 24 at the Charles Bowles Track. Willamette won a total of 16 events during the meet.

Anderson took first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and triple jump. He won the 100-meter dash in 11.24 seconds, with Deriontae Green from L&C placing second at 11.39 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Anderson's winning time was 23.34 seconds. Huero Lopez of Lewis & Clark was second in 23.46 seconds. Anderson claimed first place in the triple jump with an overall distance of 43' 1.75", as he set a personal record. He was first by four inches in front of Sam Johnson of the Pioneers, who placed second at 42' 9.75".

Bearcats winning two events during the meet were Sami Riggs (So., La Verne, CA/Bonita HS), Keaton Beckmann (Sr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS), and Eric Kaszycki (So., Santee, CA/Santana HS).

Riggs grabbed first place in the women's 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. She prevailed in the 100-meter race in 13.10 seconds. Teammate Jenette Cabrera (Jr., Hollister, CA/San Benito HS) was second in 13.68 seconds. Riggs won the 200-meter dash at 26.87 seconds.

Beckmann earned top finishes in the men's 110-meter hurdles and the shot put. He competed unopposed in the hurdles and registered a time of 15.72 seconds. He set a personal record of 39' 6" to win the shot put. His previous best mark was 39' 2.50" in the Willamette vs. Portland Dual earlier this season. Kaszycki placed second in the shot put at 37' 5".

Kaszycki won the men's discus throw and hammer throw. In the discus, his top distance was a personal record of 127' 2". Beckmann was second in the discus at 117' 8". Kaszycki threw unopposed in the hammer and contributed a distance of 127' 9"

Beckmann placed second in the men's pole vault at 11' 5.75". Logan Kyle won the pole vault for the Pioneers with a successful attempt at 14' 7.50".

Winning one event each for the Bearcats were Gabriel Regimbal (So., Bellingham, WA/Squalicum HS) and Alex Matteson (Jr., Seattle, WA/Nathan Hale HS) for the men's team and Audrey Piacsek (Jr., Ellensburg, WA/Ellensburg HS), Katherine Thornton (Fy., Reno, NV/Reno HS), Abigail House (Fy., Oakland, OR/Oakland HS), Avery Mickelsen (Jr./So., Ephrata, WA/Ephrata HS), and Samantha Waters (So., Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS) for the women's team.

Regimbal earned first place in the men's 800-meter run. His time was 2:02.64. Brendan Creeks from L&C was second at 2:03.43. Roscoe McDonald (So., Seattle, WA/Ballard HS) of Willamette was third in 2:04.54 and Andres Huante from WU placed fourth in 2:04.86.

Matteson led a 1-2 finish for the Bearcats in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:11.00. Regimbal took second in 4:12.37.

The women's 1,500-meter run was won by Piacsek in 5:06.18. Thornton attained first place in the women's high jump by clearing 4' 9" on her second attempt. House was unopposed in the women's shot put and achieved a top distance of 32' 9".

Mickelsen prevailed in the women's discus with a personal record toss of 108' 0". Waters placed second in the discus at 103' 1". Waters registered first place in the women's hammer at 133' 3". Leanne Machado (So., Pendleton, OR/Pendleton HS) of Willamette was second at 127' 8", as she set a personal record. Mickelsen took third place at 127' 0".

Willamette won the men's team competition with the Pioneers, 63-32. The Bearcats placed first in the women's team standings, as they defeated Lewis & Clark, 66-20.

Up next for the Bearcats is a dual meet against Humboldt State University on Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29. Throwing events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. (PDT) on Wednesday at the Charles Bowles Track. The men's hammer throw and the women's hammer throw will be held at Corban University. All of the other events will be held on Thursday at the Charles Bowles Track, with running events starting at 3:30 p.m. and field events beginning at 4:30 p.m.
