SALEM, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team picked up a Northwest Conference victory over Whitman College, 5-4, on Saturday, March 6, after the Blues had two forfeit five of matches with only three players on their roster. The match counts in the NWC standings, but does not count in either team's overall record. The Bearcats are 1-0 in the NWC and the Blues are 0-1.

The Blues won all four matches that were played -- #1 doubles, as well as #1, #2, and #3 singles. At #2 singles, Irene Tsai defeated Siena Ginsburg (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS), 6-2, 6-3.

Willamette won #2 and #3 doubles, plus #4, #5, and #6 singles by forfeit. The wins provided the Bearcats with the narrow NWC victory.

The Bearcats will host Linfield University in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday, March 14. If the weather allows the match to be played at the WU Tennis Courts, action will begin at 11 a.m. (PDT).
