Ginsburg Wins in Singles and Doubles, but PLU Downs Bearcats, 7-2

SALEM, Ore. -- Siena Ginsburg (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) from Willamette University earned victories at #2 singles and #2 doubles in competition on Saturday, March 20 against Pacific Lutheran University, but the Lutes defeated the Bearcats, 7-2, at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club. Pacific Lutheran advanced to 2-2 overall, 1-2 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the NWC.

Ginsburg won a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set to down Hannah Jeffries of PLU. Ginsburg rallied past Jeffries, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-7. At #2 doubles, Ginsburg teamed up with Alyssa Siobhan Oberg (Grad., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) to move past Bayley Gochanour and Taylor Stokes, 8-4.

Pacific Lutheran won a close match at #1 doubles when Sarah Dean (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) and Sylvia Marr (Sr., Grants Pass, OR/Hidden Valley HS) of Willamette had to retire due to an injury. Dean and Marr were tied with Sydney Cameron and Jeffries, 7-7, when the doubles match ended. In the #3 doubles match, Jillian Chong and Maggie Burnett of PLU defeated Ruby Blake (Fy., La Crosse, WI/Central HS) and Camille Gibney (Fy., La Crescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS), 8-2.

Cameron took #1 singles for the Lutes, as she edged past Dean in the first set on her way to a 7-5, 6-2 win. The Lutes also received singles victories from Gochanour at #3, Stokes at #4. Chong at #5, and Burnett at #6.

The Bearcats are set to take on Lewis & Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, on Saturday, March 27. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. (PDT).
