Newberg, Ore. - The Willamette Bearcats women's tennis team suffered a tough 6-1 loss to the George Fox Bruins on Saturday in Newberg. Gio Horner won the lone point for the Bearcats with a victory at number two singles.

The match began with a hard-fought doubles competition. At number three doubles, Sofia Spencer and Alicia Sola pushed their match to a tie-breaker before falling 7-6.  At #1 doubles, Gio Horner and Alexa de Crinis put up a valiant effort against George Fox's Kalli Wiker and Arianna Rader before falling 6-2. 

Willamette carried the fight from the number three doubles teams into singles play. Gio Horner delivered a crucial victory for Willamette at the number two spot, overcoming Riley Bobkiewicz in a thrilling match that went to a tiebreak, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5). After dropping the first set at #1 singles, Alexa de Crinis battled back to take the second set 6-2 before falling in the third.  The Bruins claimed victory in the remaining singles matches for the 6-1 final team score.

Women's Tennis plays its final match of the season on Sunday, April 13th, when they host Linfield University at 11:00 am.  The Bearcats will honor Ruby Thompson and Richelle Suzuki, two seniors playing their final match today for Willamette.
