Joyner Earns Third Team All-Region Recognition from ABCA

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University relief pitcher Brady Joyner (Jr., RHP, Las Vegas, NV/Shadow Ridge HS) has been chosen Third Team NCAA Division III All-Region 10 by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) for his outstanding efforts as the Bearcats' closer this spring. The 2023 NCAA Division III All-Region 10 Baseball Team honored 50 players, with 15 selections on the First Team, 20 players on the Second Team, and 15 players on the Third Team. A total of 13 pitchers were selected from teams in Region 10, which includes the West Coast (18 teams), Texas (16 teams), Arkansas (1), and Louisiana (1).

Joyner tied for fifth in NCAA Division III with 10 saves. He also tied the Willamette record for saves in a season, matching the 10 saves each by Chris Hopton in 1993 and Mike Corey in 1994.

Willamette concluded the 2023 season with a 25-14 overall record, including 15-9 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats tied for second place in the NWC and qualified for the NWC Tournament for the fourth time since 2016. Willamette registered a .293 team batting average on offense, while stealing 69 bases and scoring 7.2 runs per game. The Bearcats pounded 96 extra-base hits with 57 doubles, four triples, and 35 home runs. Pitchers for Willamette combined to strike out 295 batters in 339 innings.

Third Team All-Region 10

Headshot of Brady Joyner Brady Joyner (Jr., RHP) was named Third Team All-Region for the second time. He previously earned Third Team All-Region honors from the ABCA in 2021. Also in 2021, he was chosen Second Team All-Region by D3baseball.com. This year, in addition to tying for fifth in the NCAA and tying Willamette's single season record with 10 saves, Joyner made 16 relief appearances and struck out 34 batters in 27 2/3 innings pitched. He produced a 1-1 record and a 4.55 earned run average. He limited opponents to a .212 batting average. He averaged 11.06 strikeouts per nine innings.

At the end of the 2023 season, Joyner was selected First Team All-NWC as a relief pitcher after earning Honorable Mention All-NWC recognition in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he registered a 6-1 record with five saves and a 1.75 ERA, as he held opponents to a .135 batting average. He contributed a 4.21 ERA and four saves in 2022.

Joyner has achieved a 9-5 record during his career with the Bearcats. He owns a 3.42 career ERA while pitching in 45 games. He has struck out 103 batters in 84 1/3 innings. Joyner is second all-time at Willamette with 19 career saves, as he trails only Corey, who set the school record with 23 saves from 1994-98.
