Baskin Earns Honor as NWC Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Drew Baskin (Jr., SS, Arroyo Grande, CA/Arroyo Grande HS) of Willamette University has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts as the Bearcats won two of three games against nearby rival Linfield University on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. Willamette won 17-9 and 7-3 on Friday and Linfield won 8-7 in 11 innings on Saturday.

Baskin was 6 for 11 at the plate for a .545 batting average with six runs and seven RBIs during the series against the Wildcats. He blasted one double, one triple, and two home runs on his way to a 1.364 slugging percentage. Baskin scored two runs in each game and had at least one hit in every game. On defense, he earned six putouts and seven assists with on double play.

In Willamette's series-opening win, he was 2 of 4 with two runs, a double, and four RBIs. In the second game, he went 1 for 2, scored two runs, and belted a triple. In the third game, he was 3 of 5, smacked two home runs, and registered three RBIs.

This year, Baskin is batting .315 with seven doubles, two triples, and three homers. In his career, he has connected on 13 doubles, five triples, and seven homers.

Willamette is 17-5 on the season and 10-5 in the NWC. The Bearcats will play a three-game NWC series at Pacific University on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. On Saturday, Willamette will take on the Boxers in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. PDT. On Sunday, the teams are scheduled to complete the series with one game at 12 p.m.
