Jorge Magaña is in his first season as the defensive line coach at Willamette University in 2023-24. Magaña joined the Bearcat football coaching staff following four seasons from 2020 through 2023 at Montana Tech University, where he coached alongside current Willamette Head Coach Aric Williams, who served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. At Montana Tech, Magaña coached the defensive line and the field goal block unit. He assisted Williams with the game plan, focusing on offensive line tendancies, the tight ends, backfield sets, and run schemes.

At Montana Tech in 2022, Magaña coached defensive lineman Keyshawn James-Newby, wo was named First Team All-Frontier Confeence. James-Newby led the conference in sacks and tackles for loss.

Prior to coaching at Montana Tech, Magaña was the defensive line coach at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California, for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He coached a First Team All-Conference selection each season.

Magaña also coached at Montana State University-Northern from the 2012 season through the 2017 season. He began his stay at MSUN as a student assistant helping coach the offensive line and contributing to strength and conditioning for the 2012 an 2013 seasons. He was the defensive line coach in 2014. He shifted his coaching responsibilities to outside linebackers/edge players as a graduate assistant at MSUN for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Magaña served as the running backs coach in 2017. During his time as an assistant coach, he also assisted with strength and conditioning, and was the head equipment manager.

As a football player at Los Medanos College, Magaña was chosen First Team All-Golden Gate Conference in the offensive line in 2009. Magaño was named Second Team All-Frontier Conference as an offensive lineman at MSU-Northern in 2010 and 2011.

Later, while coaching at MSU-Northern, Magaña earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education (K-12) in 2014.
