Oliver Smith Cards a 1-under 71, is Tied for 10th place at the NWC Fall Classic

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Oliver Smith (So., San Jose, CA/Pioneer HS) of Willamette University shot a 1-under par 71 and was in a five-way tie for 10th place after 18 holes at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 14. Brock Olson (So., Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington HS) of Willamette carded a 1-over par 73 and was in a three-way tie for 18th place. The 36-hole tournament is being played at Michelbook Country Club and is hosted by Linfield University. 

Action on the Michelbook course will conclude with the second round of 18 holes on Sunday, Oct. 15. Play will get underway at 8:30 a.m. PDT.

Willamette was in sixth place in the team standings. Host Linfield was in first place with a score of 10-under par 278. Whitworth University was second at 6-under 282. George Fox University and Whitman College were tied for third place at 293, while Pacific University was fifth at 295. Willamette's score in sixth place was 298, with Pacific Lutheran University in seventh at 300, the University of Puget Sound in eighth at 304, and Lewis & Clark College in ninth at 326.

Jacob Smissen from Linfield shot a 6-under par 66 and was in first place on the individual leaderboard. Ben Korach of Pacific owned second place with a 67. Brenadn Borck of George Fox and Cade Streeter of Puget Sound shared third place at 68. Douglas Bailey of Linfield and Drury Brock of Pacific were tied for fifth place at 69. Matthew Durkin, Sam Pauly, and Jacob Rawley, all from Whitworth, were tied for seventh place with rounds of 70.

Smith of Willamette was joined by four other golfers in the tie for 10th place at 71. Also carding a 1-under 71 were Ian Powers from GFU, Mason Remington of Whitman, Koen Solis of Pacific Lutheran, and Christopher Zamani of Linfield. Smith earned four birdies during the round.

While shooting a 73 for the Bearcats, Olson registered 15 pars and a birdie, with two bogeys. Completing Willamette's team were Jack McMullin (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS), Preston Lightle (Fy., Victoria, BC, Canada/Belmont Senior Secondary School), and Alexander Papajohn (Fy., Parker, CO/Lutheran HS). All three carded a 77.
