Bearcats Shut Out Pacific, 9-0

(MEN'S TENNIS) SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 9-0, at the WU Tennis Courts on Sunday, April 1, as the Bearcats moved into a tie with the University of Puget Sound for fourth place in the Northwest Conference standings. Willamette, now 6-6 in the NWC, also improved to 7-8 on the season. Pacific dropped to 0-11, both overall and in NWC play.

Eric MacMillan (Jr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) led the way for Willamette with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Josh Kai-Corpuz at #1 singles. The Bearcats won four singles matches without losing a game. In addition to MacMillan's win, other 6-0, 6-0 victories were earned by Fitz Paccione (Jr., Encinitas, CA/Cathedral Catholic HS) at #3 singles, Shaun Mihalick (Sr., Mukilteo, WA/Eastlake HS) at #4 singles and Geoff Klein (Jr., Sagle, ID/Sandpoint HS) at #5 singles.

Reid Snowden (Sr., Napa, CA/Vintage HS) won #2 singles over Ryan Ford, 6-3, 6-1. Pacific forfeited at #6 singles, since the Boxers had just five players.

Only two doubles matches were played, with Pacific forfeiting at #3 doubles. The top doubles match was won by Snowden and Mihalick over Kai-Corpuz and Ryan Ford, 8-1.

Willamette's next match is set for Saturday, April 7 at Lewis & Clark College. The match will start at 11 a.m. (PDT) in Portland, Ore.
