(MEN'S TENNIS) WHITTIER, CALIF. -- The Willamette University Bearcats won all three doubles matches, then recorded victories in four of six singles flights, to defeat Whittier College, 7-2, on Thursday, March 29. The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, but was postponed due to the weather.
At #1 doubles, Eric MacMillan (Jr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) and Shaun Mihalick (Sr., Mukilteo, WA/Eastlake HS) sliipped past Whittier's team of Justin DeLong and Sean Robertson, 9-8, after winning a tie-breaker, 9-7. The #2 doubles match was won by Donovan LeDoux (Fr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) and Micah Mack (Fr., Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) over Sean Summerall and Joseph Choi, 8-4. WU's winning team at #3 doubles was Fitz Paccione (Jr., Encinitas, CA/Cathedral Catholic HS) and Geoff Klein (Jr., Sagle, ID/Sandpiont HS), who defeated Eric Hinsworth and Danny Penesch, 8-3.
Two of Willamette's four wins in singles required a tie-breaker played instead of a third set. MacMillan defeated Robertson at #2 singles, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), (10-5). Mihalick outlasted Summerall at #4 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), (10-5). At #1 singles, Whittiers DeLong edged Donovan LeDoux, 3-6, 6-2, (11-9), in yet another match decided by a tie-breaker.
Willamette's next match is set for Sunday, April 1, when the Bearcats host Pacific University at the WU Tennis Courts. Match time is at 1 p.m. (PDT).
