YAKIMA, WASH. -- For the Willamette University men's tennis team, the third time was the charm, as the Bearcats defeated the University of Puget Sound, 5-4, in the first round of the Northwest Conference Tennis Championships on Friday, April 20. Puget Sound won both regular season meetings by 5-4 scores, and earned the tournament's #4 seed as a results. Willamette was seeded #5.
In the third meeting, the Bearcats lost two of three doubles matches, but won four of six singles matched. Donovan LeDoux (Fr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) led the way for Willamette with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andrew Neal at #1 singles.
After defeating the Loggers, Willamette lost to top-seeded Whitman College, 9-0, in the semifinals.The Bearcats will take on Linfield College, the #3 seed, for third place at 8 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday, April 21.
