(MEN'S TENNIS) COSTA MESA, CALIF. -- Vanguard University, ranked #6 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), defeated visiting Willamette University, 9-0, on Monday, March 26. The Lions won all three doubles matches, then recorded all six singles wins in straight sets.
The Bearcats put up solid battles at #1 and #2 doubles, but couldn't keep pace with Vangaurd. At #1 doubles, Vanguard's team of Florian Lemke and Vasileios Psyrras defeated Eric MacMillan and Shaun Mihalick, 8-4. In the #2 doubles match, Dieter Weislmaier and Thomas Frank of Vanguard defeated Donovan LeDoux (Fr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) and Micah Mack, 8-4.
In singles, Vanguard was strong at all six positions. Lemke defeated LeDoux, 6-0, 6-0, in the #1 match. The closest match was at #2 singles, where Weislmaier downed McMillan, 6-3, 6-2.
Vanguard improved to 13-4 with the win. Willamette, which competes in NCAA Division III, fell to 5-8 on the season. The Bearcats are scheduled to play at Whittier College in Whittier, Calif., on Tuesday, March 27.
