Willamette Defeats Green River CC, 6-3, in Exhibition Match

AUBURN, WASH. -- Willamette University and Green River Community College played a very competitive exhibition match on Friday, April 11, before the Bearcats prevailed, 6-3. Five of the six singles matches went to three sets and two of the doubles matches were decided by narrow margins.

In doubles, WU earned wins at the #1 and #3 positions. Eric MacMillan (Sr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) and Andrew Murakami (Jr., Wahiawa, HI/University of Redlands) took #1 doubles, 8-6, over Will Herbert and Konner Ayris of GRCC. At #3 doubles, Alex Sepenzis (Jr., Denver, CO/Cherry Creek HS) and Geoff Klein (Sr., Sagle, WA/Sandpoint HS) of Willamette downed James Rovetti and Brook Fitzsimmons, 8-1.

GRCC won #2 doubles in a tie-breaker. Travis Johnson and Bernardo Nogales edged WU's team Matt Houser (Fr., Vancouver, WA/Evergreen HS) and Luke Lagattuta (So., Albuquerque, NM/Highland HS), 9-8 (7-5).

MacMillan defeated Herbert at #1 singles, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3. Houser at #3 singles, Sepenzis at #5 singles and Klein at #6 singles also registered victories for the Bearcats.

Willamette will play at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, April 12. Match time is set for 10 a.m. (PDT).
