OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University men's tennis player Joshua Wong (Jr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) opened the NCAA Division III singles bracket at the 112th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament with a victory over Dylan Tevlin from Chapman University (Calif.) on Friday, April 27. Wong downed Tevlin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Wong is one of seven Northwest Conference players competing in the Division III singles bracket, but he was the only NWC athlete to win an opening round match.

"Josh played really well," WU Head Coach Toby Krauel said. "He has shown that he is one of the top NCAA Division III tennis players on the West Coast."

With the first round victory secured, Wong will compete in the Round of 32 this afternoon. He will be taking on the #3 seed, Warren Wood from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Wong reached the Round of 16 at the Ojai Valley Tournament in 2010.
