SACRAMENTO, CALIF. -- The Willamette University men's tennis team lost an exhibition match against American River College, 7-2, on Friday, March 29. American River is a community college, and the NCAA does not count results against two-year colleges.

Willamette registered its two wins during the doubles competition. Will Cooper (Jr., Gresham, OR/Centennial HS) and Gunnar Lee (Fr., Hilo, HI/St. Joseph HS) of WU outscored Simba Baratti and Patrick Johnson at #2 doubles, 8-5.

At #3 doubles, the Bearcats' Jack Schreiber (So., Solana Beach, CA/The Grauer School) and Devin Abney (So., Shoreline, WA/Shorecrest HS/Univ. of Redlands) won by an identical 8-5 score over Kevin Valentine and Charlie LaSalle.

Andrew Amor and Adam Duong of American River defeated Joshua Wong (Sr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) and Sam Wexman (Fr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS), 8-3, in the #1 doubles match.

It was Willamette's fourth match of the week, and Wong received a break during the singles action.

Led by a straight-set victory by Amor over Wexman at #1 singles, the Beavers won all six singles matches. The best battle was at #6 singles, where LaSalle edge out Shrujan Kalidindi in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6).

Willamette will take on its Northwest Conference opponents from the University on Puget Sound on Saturday, April 6 in Tacoma, Wash. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
