Willamette to Battle Linfield at WU Tennis Courts on Tuesday

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University and nearby rival Linfield College will meet in men's tennis on Tuesday, April 14. The match will be held at the WU Tennis Courts on the Willamette campus. Match time is set for 4 p.m. (PDT). If it rains, the match will move indoors at the Courthouse Tennis Center at 1379 Madison Street NE.

Earlier this season, the Bearcats defeated Linfield 6-3 in McMinnville, Oregon, on March 14. In that match, Willamette won at five of the six singles positions. Sam Wexman (Jr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) of Willamette downed Ben McNair of Linfield at #1 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Willamette enters the match with a 3-12 overall record, including 3-6 in the Northwest Conference, after falling to Whitman College and Whitworth University this past weekend. Linfield brings in a 1-13 record. The Wildcats are 1-9 in the NWC.

Wexman missed Willamette's last two matches due to injury. He has missed seven matches this season. Jacob Blaisdell (Fr., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) also did not play at Whitman or Whitworth.

The lineup for the Bearcats over the weekend included Gunnar Lee (Jr., Hilo, HI/St. Joseph HS) at #1 singles and Jack Schreiber (Sr., Solana Beach, CA/The Grauer School) at #2 singles. The remaining singles matches featured Blake Brash (Jr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) at #3, Shrujan Kalidindi (Jr., Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista HS) at #4, Derek Lund (Fr., Helena, MT/Capital HS) at #5 and Samuel Rowe (Fr., Andover, MA/Andover HS) at #6.

In doubles, Lee and Kalidindi played at the top position against Whitman. Lee and Schreiber played #1 doubles against Whitworth.

Linfield's last match was a 7-2 loss to George Fox University on Sunday, April 12. The Widlcats competed with a singles lineup of McNair at #1, Kesley Rosborough at #2, Joel Trousdale at #3, Lukas Kleinman at #4, Micah Roos at #5, and Ben Brewer at #6.

In doubles against GFU, the Linfield teams were Rosborough and Kleinman at #1, McNair and Roos at #2, and Trousdale and Brewer at #3.

Jack Schreiber has played primarily #2 singles this season. He also has competed in eight doubles matches this spring, including four at the #3 position.
