Bearcats Fall in Men's Tennis at Lewis & Clark, 9-0

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Lewis & Clark College defeated Willamette University in men's tennis, 9-0, on Sunday, March 15 at the L&C Tennis Dome. The Pioneers upped their record to 6-3 on the season, including 6-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Willamette fell to 2-4 on the season. The Bearcats are 2-3 in the NWC.

Michael Brewer and Kevin Ross of L&C outscored Willamette's top doubles team of Gunnar Lee (Jr., Hilo, HI/St. Joseph HS) and Sam Wexman (Jr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS), 8-4. The Pioneers also won #2 and #3 doubles, with Pim Trouerbach and Gordon Barrows earning the win at #2, while Harrison Collins and Morgan Joyce recorded the victory at #3.

Ross downed Lee in the #1 singles match, 6-2, 6-1. Joyce downed Wexman 6-2 in the first set, before Wexman had to retire. At #3 singles, Daniel Hahm defeated Jack Schreiber, 6-1, 6-0.

The tightest singles match was played at #4, where Barrows held off Blake Brash (Jr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) with a pair of 6-4 wins. Brenden Barrows won #5 singles for L&C, while Parker Nichols triumphed at #6 singles.

Willamette will host Schreiner University (Texas) on Wednesday, March 18 at the WU Tennis Courts. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PST). The Bearcats also play at home on Friday, March 20 against University of the Ozarks (Ark.) at 4 p.m.
