SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University defeated Community Colleges of Spokane, 9-0, in a men's tennis exhibition match at the WU Tennis Courts on Thursday, March 31. The competition was held at the same time as a match between the women's teams from Willamette and CC of Spokane.

The team win-loss record for Willamette this season did not change because the NCAA does not count results against two-year colleges.

Aaron Schechter (Fr., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) and Colin Yamaguchi (Sr./Jr., Clackamas, OR/Clackamas HS) helped Willamette sweep the doubles matches by winning 8-3 at the #1 position against Colton Erho and Conrad Provan. Samuel Wexman (Sr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) and Derek Lund of WU swept through #2 doubles to defeat Broc Storro and Taylor Shea, 8-0.

The #3 doubles match was own by Willamette's Jesse Mackinney (So., Arcata, CA/Northcoast Prep and Performing Arts Academy) and Miles Cheng (Fr., Oakland, CA/The Head Royce School), who outscored Kyle Canaday and Scott Mathews, 8-4.

Schechter prevailed at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Erho. Wexman downed Provan at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. At #3 singles, Lund rolled past Storro, 6-1, 6-1.

Also winning for the Bearcats were Mackinney at #4 singles, Endy Zarate (Fr., Salem, OR/McKay HS) at #5 singles and Cameron Coe (Fr., La Puente, CA/Bishop Amat Memorial HS) at #6 singles. Mackinney outlasted Shea in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 10-8. Zarate swept every game against Canaday in a 6-0, 6-0 win. Coe defeated Mathews, 6-1, 6-1.

The Bearcats will play again on Saturday, April 2 at the WU Tennis Courts against University of Puget Sound. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
