Bearcats Roll Past C.C. of Spokane, 9-0, in Men's Tennis Exhibition

SALEM, Ore. -- Gunnar Lee (Sr., Hilo, HI/St. Joseph School) and Douglas Hochmuth (Sr./So., Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd HS) each won singles matches in three sets to help the Bearcats shut out Community College of Spokane, 9-0, in a men's tennis exhibition match at the Courthouse Tennis Center on Saturday, March 25.

The match will not go on Willamette's win-loss record for the season because the NCAA does not count results against two-year colleges.

At #1 singles, Lee outlasted Sean Singco from CC of Spokane, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Hochmuth was victorious at #3 singles against Kyle Smithgall, as he won the first and third sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.

Aaron Schechter (So., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) of WU took #2 singles over Blake Lynd, 6-1, 6-4. Also winning singles matches for the Bearcats were, Hunter Yee (Fr., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) at #4, Derek Lund (Jr., Helena, MT/Capital HS) at #5 and Colin Fisher (Fr., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School) at #6.

Yee downed Niamh Lakewolf, 6-0, 6-1. Lund shut out Christian Flannery, 6-0, 6-0, while Fisher breeze through the first set and held off Mark Norman in the second set for a 6-0, 6-4 win.

The #1 doubles match went to Lee and Schechter of Willamette over Singco and Lynd, 8-2. Yee and Fisher downed Smithgall and Flannery, 8-3, at #2 doubles. In #3 doubles, Hochmuth and Lund outscored Lakewolf and Norman, 8-5.

Willamette is scheduled to play at George Fox University on Saturday, April 8. Match time in Newberg, Oregon, is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
