WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- AJ Avansino (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) of Willamette University lost in the final of the "B" singles bracket and Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette fell in the Round of 16 in the "A" singles bracket, as the ITA Northwest Regional in men's tennis continued on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24. The tournament is being played at Whitman College.

Avansino played a total of four singles matches on Saturday and Sunday. He defeated Froslan from Whitworth University, 6-3, 6-1, in the "B" Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Avansino edged out Gunnar Woller of Whitman College on the strength of a tie-breaker in the first set and a close win in the second set, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. Avansino moved past Colby Cinqmars of Whitworth in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, in the semifinals. In the "B" singles championship match, Hanri Luo of Whitman downed Avansino, 6-4, 6-1.

Also in the "B" singles Round of 16, Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) of Willamette advanced past Jess Weaver of Whitworth by taking two close sets, 6-4, 6-4. William Lanstra of Whitman outlasted Nigbur in the three sets during the quarterfinals, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

Kabacy took on Nanase Ebisu from George Fox in the "A" singles Round of 16. Ebisu won the match, 6-0, 6-1.

In the "B" second round consolation bracket, Willamette's Trey Allen (Jr., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS) was defeated by Spencer Loucks from Lewis & Clark College, 6-2, 6-1. Andrew Kropp (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) also competed for the Bearcats in the "B" second round consolation bracket. Jasraj Sethi of Whitman downed Kropp in a super tie-breaker instead of a third set, 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.

Willamette has completed the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule.
