Kabacy Leads Willamette over Bellevue 8-1 in Men's Tennis Exhibition

SALEM, Ore. -- Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) won #1 singles and teamed up with Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) to win #1 doubles, as Willamette University downed Bellevue College 8-1 in an exhibition men's tennis match on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Salem Tennis and Swim Club. The match was an exhibition because the NCAA does not count results against two-year colleges.

Kabacy and Nigbur defeated Jackson Stumpf and Finn Andersson of Bellevue at #1 doubles, 8-2, to help Willamette go 3-0 in the doubles competition. WU's team of AJ Avansino (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) and Zach Olander (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) won at #2 doubles, 8-2, against Tyler Gettmann and Anthony Madsen. At #3 doubles, Andre Lief (So., Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS) combined with Velibor Mladenovic to hold off Colby Weller and Cole Fredericks, 8-6.

The Bearcats went 5-1 in singles. Kabacy led the effort in singles, as he easily won the #1 match against Stumpf, 6-1, 6-1. The Bulldogs earned their only victory at #2 singles when Gettmann edged Nigbur in the first set, 7-5, and won the second set, 6-0. Avansino took #3 singles for Willamette by scores of 7-5 and 6-3 against Weller.

At #4 singles, Olander of WU defeated Madsen of Bellevue, 6-0, 6-2. In the #5 singles match, Lief held off Fredericks in the first set, 6-4, and swept through the second set, 6-0. Trey Allen (Jr., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS) of the Bearcats won #6 singles over Andersson, 6-0, 6-4.

Willamette remained 0-3 on the season. The Bearcats will take on Pacific University in a non-conference match on Sunday, Feb. 25 in Forest Grove, Oregon. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. PST.
