SALEM, Ore. -- Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette University has been named the Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts on Saturday, Feb. 17. He competed in both singles and doubles against California Lutheran University.

Kabacy and Quentin Nigbur won #1 doubles against CLU's top team of Andy Ai and James Truong, 8-6, as they held off the duo for the Kingsmen. At #1 singles, Kabacy was involved in very competitive match, but Ai won in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. California Lutheran won the team match, 7-2.

Willamette also played an exhibition match against Bellevue College (Wash.) on Sunday, Feb. 18. It was an exhibition because the NCAA does not count matches against two-year colleges. Against the Bulldogs, Kababy won at #1 singles and #1 doubles. In the #1 doubles match, Kabacy prevailed 6-1, 6-1, over Jackson Stumpf. At #1 doubles, Kabacy and Nigbur, downed Stumpf and Finn Andersson, 8-2.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 23 with a non-conference match at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m. PST.
