Kabacy and Nigbur Win at #1 Doubles on Senior Day for Men's Tennis

SALEM, Ore. -- Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) and Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) of Willamette University won #1 doubles against Whitworth University on Senior Day for the Bearcat at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Sunday, April 7. Kabacy and Nigburn defeated Nathan Tjelle and Henry Preacher, 8-3.

Whitworth won the remaining two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead on its way to a 7-2 victory in the team competition. At #2 doubles, Ethan Warring and Matt Froslan downed AJ Avansino (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) and Zack Olander (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette, 8-2. At #3 doubles, the Pirates' team of Lance Dunn and Landon LaBrie outscored Andre Lief (Jr., Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS) and Trey Allen (Jr., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS), 8-5.

The Bearcats picked up their second win at #4 singles, where Olander won in straight sets against Jess Weaver of Whitworth, 6-3, 6-2. At #5 singles, Colby Cinzmars of the Pirates won by identical 6-3, 6-2 scores versus Lief of Willamette.

Kabacy and Tjelle played a highly-competitive match at #1 singles. Kabacy won the first set, 7-5, and Tjelle took the second set, 6-2. Tjelle claimed the super tie-breaker played instead of a third set by a 10-1 score. In #2 singles, Warring defeated Nigbur, 6-0, 6-2, and at #3 singles Henry Preacher of Whitworth downed Avansino, 6-2, 6-1. Froslan won #6 singles for the Pirates against Trey Allen (Jr., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS), 6-0, 6-2.

The Bearcats dropped to 0-14 overall, 0-6 in the Northwest Conference. Whitworth advanced its record to 5-12 on the season, 3-4 in the NWC.

Willamette will close out the dual match season with an NWC match against George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, on Sunday, April 14. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. PDT.
